Union of Abaza-Adyg youth
The end of XX century is
marked by considerable rise of national self-consciousness of
Abaza-Adyg (Circassian) peoples - Abazins, Abkhazes, Adygs, Kabardians,
Circassians, Shapsugs - the most ancient inhabitants of the Caucasus. It
is quite natural. Abaza-Adygs (Circassians) who lived for a long time under
colonial yoke of the Russian empire which is known by its intolerant attitude
to all non-Russian, and then in the conditions of totalitarian communist
regime didnt have possibility of itercourse with their foreign compatriots.
Now they may to revive their culture, religion, traditions and customs,
develop their statehood, to associate with their brothers living in more
than 50 countries.
For the short historical period since the end of 80th years considerable
changes occured on the political map of the Caucasus region. After desintegration
of the USSR Abkhazia found itself abroad, Adygeia separated from Krasnodar
region, Karachai-Circassia - from Stavropol region. These former autonomous
regions together with Kabardin-Balkaria raised their status and transformed
from autonomies without rights to republics of the Russian Federation.
Unfortunately, these changes were darkened by common tragedy for the
whole Abaza-Adyg (Circassian) world - the war in Abkhazia which caused
huge losses to human, economic and cultural resources of the small republic.
But together with it this war united related Abaza-Adyg (Circassian) peoples.
As is known, once Abaza-Adygs (Circassians) were one people with common
language, traditions, customs, culture. Up to now we remain united people
and all the above-mentioned factors continue to unite us. Only languages
vary a little but they belong to united Abaza-Adyg language family. We
always felt and now feel ourselves as a united people. It was very clearly
demonstrated during congresses of International Circassian Association
and International Association of Abkhaz-Abazin (Abaza) people which took
place in Nalchik, Maikop, Lykhny, Sukhum and Cherkessk. In preparation
and conduction of these congresses all Abaza-Adyg (Circassian) peoples
took part. And these congresses became good examples of their fraternal
solidarity and unity.
Abaza-Adyg (Circassian) young people comprehend necessity of such unity.
So in autumn of 1997 in Cherkessk Karachai-Circassian republican public
organization - Union of Abaza-Adyg youth (UAAY) was created.
This organization unites young Abazins and Adygs living in Karachai-Circassian
Republic. Now it has status of regional organization but in the future
it will become All-Russian and then international organization.
The organizations charter determines the following objectives and tasks:

peoples and prevention of social, national and regional conflicts;

and spiritual legacy of Abaza-Adyg (Circassian) people, preservation of
its national originality, restoration of the real history of Abazins and

of contacts of Diaspora with the historical homeland;

Kabardin-Balkaria and Shapsugia and all countries where Abaza-Adygs (Circassians)
live.

audio- and video-materials devoted to Circassians, creation of special
library, audio- and video-collection;

For the time being UAAY branches exist in 5 settlements of Karachai-Circassian
Republic - 3 districts and capital of the republic. It is planned to create
UAAY branches in all Abazin and Adyg auls of the republic.
The charter of UAAY was registered by Ministry of Justice of Karachai-Circassian

Certificate to Chairman of Executive Committee of UAAY took place.
